Dear Editor: Electing lawmakers in gerrymandered districts is not democracy or good government; it is incompetency and bad government.

These gerrymandered “winners" exercise authority over various agencies whose standards are much higher than many of the winners' credentials, who might not even qualify for a government job.

Who would hire a man who shows an animated video of himself attacking and killing a female colleague? Then he is neither expelled or indicted while members of his party signal silent support for him. Who would hire a QAnon queen, so obsessed with dark conspiracy theories, that she appears mentally unbalanced? Who would re-hire someone who can’t tell the difference between a riot and a picnic?

As we watch, today’s fascistic descendants of the 1920s and 1930s in Europe demonstrate daily all over America, cheered on by the GOP. Will it take the "blood, toil, tears and sweat” of millions of Americans from all walks of life and of all colors to save democracy again, as in World War II?

If so, let’s save democracy in the 21st century with ballots not bullets. Vote for Democrats in 2022 and 2024. Churchill, FDR and Eisenhower would approve.
